Grants for Women in West Virginia

One of the most frustrating things in life is wanting or needing help and not being able to find it. Sure, grant and assistance programs are out there but so are scams and loan sharks.

The Amber Grant

The Amber Grant by WomensNet is a really cool program because it helps female business owners to fulfill their dreams. The organization awards one grant of $1,000 to a lucky winner each month. But it doesn’t stop there. All twelve grant winners from the year are entered in the running to win an additional $10,000 in grant money at the end of the year! Only one woman will win the grand total of $11,000.

If you are interested, you can apply by filling out the online application. It involves answering a few questions about yourself and your business. There is also a $15 fee to process the application, as they are a privately funded foundation and they have to pay people to process the hundreds of applications they get each month.

The West Virginia WORKS Program

The West Virginia WORKS program provides temporary financial assistance to needy families in the state. It is available to single mothers or anyone who has a child under the age of 18 years old who lives with them. The mission is to help people who are out of work or low income to become self-sufficient and economically independent.

There are income and asset requirements that must be met in order to qualify, and these are, in-turn, based on the number of people living in the house. To see a full list of requirements and restrictions, visit the website here.

West Virginia’s Pell Grant

The Pell Grant program is designed for low income students who would like to attend college but are unable to due to financial shortages. Eligible students can receive up to $6,000 per year to help pay for tuition, textbooks, school fees, room and board, transportation cost, supplies, and more.

The grant is funded by the federal government, but it is the duty of the schools to distribute it. To apply, you can fill out the FAFSA form here, and then get in touch with your school of choice. They will provide you with the details and status of your approval. To see a list of participating schools in West Virginia, or to learn more, click here.
