Grants for Women in Washington

Are you a woman living in Washington who is looking for a small business grant, financial aid to attend college, or just a little help making ends meet? If so, you are in luck. Washington offers its residents many assistance and grant programs for a wide range of things. Below, we have compiled a list of some of the best of the best, to make it easy for you to choose the program that is right for you, and your family (if applicable). Enjoy!

FedEx Small Business Grant

First up on our list is the FedEx small business grant, available to 10 different business owners each year. The maximum amount (although not always the same for every business) is $25,000, as well as credit you can use on FedEx Office and Printing Services. To apply, you must have a business that qualifies, meaning you need a minimum of six months in business, you need to be a for-profit business, and you need to have less than 99 employees in total. The application process is easy and can be completed online by answering a few questions and uploading a video (optional) about your business. Although the video is optional, we strongly suggest you submit one, it shows extra effort if nothing else. To learn more about this program, visit the link here.

The Pell Grant Scholarship

Next up is the federally sponsored Pell Grant Scholarship, granting up to $6,000 per school year to low income students who would not be able to attend college without financial help. The cool thing about this program is that, if necessary, the benefits can be received for up to 12 years. The grant is applied for via the FAFSA application, but is distributed by your participating school of choice. Tuition is deducted by the school right away, and the remaining money is given to you to buy books, supplies, pay any school fees, buy food, or anything else that has to do with the cost of attending college. Washington LIHEAP

This wonderful program helps low income single mothers (and fathers) with paying their energy bills, weatherization, and more. You qualify by need and income level, and can receive a large number of benefits, although no cash is actually paid to you. Instead all payments made, be it to the electric company, the gas company, etc, are paid by the program on your behalf. You can even get repairs to your appliances for free, if need be. Women Infants and Children (WIC) Washington

This program focuses on women, and children under the age of 5 years old. The program is essentially a health and nutrition program, where women and children can come to get healthy food, help with nutritional planning, doctors referrals, and a lot more to boot. The program spans many areas, which you can learn about here if you wish to. This is a very popular program, and last year alone more the 270,000 women and children were helped. The Amber Grant for Women

A heavy hitter on this list, due to the size and frequency of the grants given, the Amber grant is a small business grant that is available to women only. Each month a different woman is chosen to receive $1,000 in cash to put towards their business, and then, at the end of the year, one of the monthly winners is chosen to receive an additional grant of $10,000! The grant is funded by WomensNet, and was founded in honor of a young woman who passed away before she was able to fulfill her dreams. If you are a female business owner, this is the one for you. You can apply entirely online, by answering two essay style questions and submitting a $15 application processing fee, which isn’t much considering the potential of $11,000 in grant money.
