Pell Grants for Women

If you are a woman who would like to earn an undergraduate degree and need help paying for college you should consider applying for a Pell Grant. The government provides Pell Grants for women to help more people be able to attend college who would otherwise not be able to afford the tuition. The Pell Grants for women are a great resource for anyone who needs financial assistance to pay for their college education, career training, or vocational program.

Pell Grants that are made available through the federal government have been created to help people pay for college and career training. They are intended for those who are seeking an undergraduate degree and cannot afford to pay for the tuition. They are usually only given to those who have not yet earned any type of degree. This means if you have already earned a bachelor’s degree, for example, then you will most likely not be approved for a Pell Grant. Women who need assistance paying for college are encouraged to apply for the grants to see if they are approved.

Typically speaking, Pell Grants do not have to be repaid. They are not a loan and there is no interest that they accrue. They are essentially a gift from the government. If you meet the eligibility requirements you will receive the grant funds for as long as you are attending your degree program and meeting all the necessary requirements. There are just a few circumstances where someone would have to pay back the funds from a Pell Grant. Women who have quit attending their program early, or who have received scholarships from other sources may be required to pay back their Pell Grant funds. If you attend the program and finish it, and you didn’t receive a scholarship from other sources, then you should not have to pay back your Pell Grant funds.

The eligibility requirements for Pell Grants include being low income. When you apply you will have to demonstrate that you are low income, which means you will have to verify your income with the government. If you are approved for a Pell Grant the amount that you will receive depends on certain criteria, including what it will cost for you to attend the program, whether you are going full or part time, if your family can contribute any funds to help pay tuition, and your plans regarding how long you plan to attend the school. For the 2018-2019 school year, the maximum amount given in a Pell Grant is $6,095. The maximum awarded amount for the 2019-2020 school year is $6,195.

Pell Grants for women are only available for up to 12 semesters, which is around six years. Depending on the number of credits you are taking per year, this should be enough to finish your undergraduate degree program. If you receive other forms of student aid it will not be held against you and won’t impact you receiving a Pell Grant. Women who have a parent who died in the line of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan and were under the age of 24 at the time may be able to receive additional Pell Grant funds above the typical award.

If you are approved for a Pell Grant they will either send the funds to your school to cover the tuition bill, send the money directly to you so that you can pay the tuition bill, or may do a combination of the two. If you receive the Pell Grant funds, be sure to use them for the intended purpose so that you don’t jeopardize your ability to receive additional funds in the future, and so that you don’t risk having to pay the award back for not using it to pay for tuition. Pell Grant funds can be used on college education related expenses, including tuition, books, supplies, etc.

The Pell Grants for women will help you be able to pay for college, which can lead to a better and more secure future. You will need to submit your application each year to continue receiving the grant. You can apply for a Pell Grant online by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Women’s Fund from the Austin Community Fund

The Austin Community Fund established the Women’s Fund program which engages men and women to help support women and children in the community. To date, more than $1.6 million has been awarded through the grant. In 2019, the Women’s Fund will be awarding $250,000 to non profits (in Travis, Burnet, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays and Williamson counties) which focus on helping women with housing, child care, unintended pregnancy prevention, and innovation. This means non-profits in these counties will have the financial support to help you. Learn more here.
