Housing Grants for Women

Women who find it difficult to pay all of their bills each month may need assistance with meeting housing needs. HUD offers a Housing Choice Voucher program. The HUD voucher program helps those with very low incomes to have affordable housing. Once you have the housing option of your choice, HUD will provide a grant to help pay the rent. The grant is paid directly to the landlord on your behalf. You will be responsible for any difference between what the housing grant is and what the monthly rent amount is. To apply, you have to contact your local HUD office.

Government Housing Grants – The federal government offers housing grants for women to help them with paying for their rent. They offer several grant programs that you can search through to see if you qualify for them. These grants are offered through the Grants.gov website and they change over time. Check the site monthly to see what housing grants are available and what the eligibility requirements are for each grant.

United Way – There are temporary housing grants for women available through the United Way. The grants are not long term, but they can help you pay for rent during a financially challenging time. You can use the United Way website to put in your zip code and find assistance in your local area.

Catholic Charities – This organization has locations around the country. They help people in a variety of ways, and will provide short term housing grants for women. If you  need help paying your rent or facing eviction, contact the location near you to see if they can provide a grant to help you through that difficult time and maintain your housing.

Public Housing Authority – There are Public Housing Authority offices around the country. If you are having difficulty finding affordable housing or paying your rent, you can contact your local office to see what type of programs they offer that can help you. Your local branch may have housing grants for women, or may be able to get you moved into more affordable housing. Your local office will have information about public housing programs in your area, as well as voucher programs that will provide grants to help pay your rent.
