Grants for Women in Hawaii

The island paradise of Hawaii offers more than just stunning beaches and dramatic mountains. Assistance programs for women abound in this tropical paradise, and you have landed on the right page to learn about them. Below is a selection of some of the best assistance programs Hawaii currently has to offer women. So if you find yourself in need, don’t fear, there is a program out there to suit your needs. Read on to see if any of these fit your situation.

Helping Hands Hawaii

This Emergency Assistance Program is designed for women and families who are either at risk of becoming homeless or are already homeless. The program strives to assist these families with rent and utility bills in order to keep a roof over their head. There is no online application for this one.

The best option for receiving assistance is to call 808-440-3835 or to receive a referral from an agency partner. Prescreening for qualifications can be done over the phone, but before you call, you should be aware that this is intended for emergency purposes only, and you will need to provide proof of financial need and a few documents as well. You can view the full terms here.

WIC Hawaii

WIC is a program that helps women, children, and newborns in need in Hawaii and across the United States. The program includes breastfeeding support, nutritional planning, education on correct diet and nutrition, and access to approved healthy foods. The qualification requirements are pretty straight forward, you must be a woman, have children under 5 years old, be pregnant, or have been pregnant in the past six months. A cool thing about this program is it also extends to foster children who are five years old or younger. Additional information can be found here at the WIC website. Another alternative is to just stop by your local WIC office and speak with a counselor about your needs.

The Amber Grant

Coming in as one of the top business grants for women, this program by WomensNet awards one woman each month with $1,000 in cash, to further their business, organization, or dream. All applicants who are chosen to receive the Amber Grant are also entered in to win an end-of-year award in the eye-popping amount of $10,000. The application can be completed online, but be prepared to answer a few questions, such as what you will use the money for and why you should win. You are allowed to apply multiple times but there is a $15 fee per application. All the additional information can be found here at the Amber Grant for Hawaii website.

The R.W. “Bob” Holden Scholarship

Although these are the maximum payouts, actual amounts may vary based on factors related to the school you choose and your individual circumstances. Approximately 50 scholarships are given out each year to student residents of Hawaii. To read a full list of requirements, or to apply, visit the website here.
