Grants for Women in Kansas

If you are a woman who is looking for financial assistance for bills, financial aid for school, or a business grant, look no further. Kansas has a whole selection of programs available, from those that are government-funded to those that are privately-funded. Read on to view our hand-picked list of assistance programs available to women in your state.

Kansas Food Assistance and Nutrition Program

This program, also known as the food stamp program, or EBT, provides Kansas residents with a benefits card that can be used to purchase food for themselves and their families, solely from approved grocery stores. Anyone can apply for this program, be it a single mother, or a family, so long as the collective income of the household meets the requirements. The Amber Grant

This private grant, founded and funded by WomensNet since the late 90’s, grants one woman per month with $1,000 in cash to further her business or project. As a bonus, all grant recipients throughout the year are entered automatically to win an additional $10,000 at the end of the year. Being a private organization, there is an application fee associated with this grant which comes in at $15, and this is used to staff the grant area of the foundation. Be prepared to answer a bit about yourself and your project, as well as let them know exactly what you intend to do with the money if you are a winner. Take note that this opportunity is available only to women, to learn more information or apply, visit the link here.

The Pell Grant

This financial aid program for undergrad students provides up to $6,000 each year to eligible applicants. You can receive benefits for a maximum of twelve years, and it covers more than just your tuition, depending on how much your tuition costs, that is. Tuition is automatically deducted from the grant amount and the remainder can be used for books, housing, transport, and more.

To receive the benefits of the Pell Grant, you must be able to show financial hardship, and a real need for the grant. If you wish to apply, head here and fill out a FAFSA form first, the standard form for all government student grants, and then speak with your school’s financial aid office. If you wish to learn more, you can do so here.

Women Infants and Children Program

WIC is a health and nutrition program designed exclusively for women and children under the age of 5 years old. This is a very important program in many states, and in some places, over 40% of all women and children receive assistance from WIC. There are, of course, eligibility requirements that must be met, but if you do meet them, you can receive healthy foods for you and your children, as well as breastfeeding support, healthcare recommendations, nutritional meal planning, and much more. To find out if you are eligible, you will have to go to your local Women Infants and Children’s office, or if you are unable, call 1 (800) 252-5942, to receive a consultation. Learn more here.

Girl Boss Foundation

This grant is offered to female entrepreneurs who work in creative fields such as; fashion, design, music, art, etc. The exciting thing about this grant is it awards $15,000 in cash to the winner, as well as featuring the winner to the Girlboss audience and giving them a spot on their platform (which could be worth more than the cash, to be honest). Girlboss offers this grant every two years, and you must be over the age of 18 to apply. To view a list of the eligibility requirements and restrictions, or to apply, follow the link here.

Kancare Program

If you are a woman with children, this program, also known as the State Children Health Insurance, is right up your alley. It offers access to health insurance for uninsured children, at a low cost. You must qualify by having low-income, and other factors, but some parents also will qualify for Kancare. The amount of funding, or level that you pay, will be decided after a screening is done to determine eligibility. You must be a resident of Kansas to receive any benefits at all. The 1000 Dreams Scholarship

There are a wide range of benefits available, and they are determined by individual needs. Assistance can include, but is not limited to, fees, textbooks, utility bills, food, artistic pursuits, and more.
