The Amber Grant

This $1,000 small business grant for female entrepreneurs is funded by WomensNet, and is awarded to a different woman each month. At the end of the calendar year, all 12 grant winners will be entered to win the additional $10,000, one-time grant.

This program is available exclusively to women and can be applied for entirely online. The application process is easy, with you only having to answer a few questions about your business, yourself, what you will do with the money, and how you will pay it forward in the future to fellow women.

Pell Grant

This federal college (or university) scholarship is available to women (and men) in North Carolina, who are low income and want to attend a public institution. Currently, the maximum allowance is $6,000 per year, for up to twelve years. Although the grant is federally funded, it is distributed by the schools themselves.

Funding varies in amount, and dries up completely, so be sure to get your application in as soon as possible. The application you need to submit is called a FAFSA form, and you can fill it out here. Once you have completed the application, get in touch with the financial aid office at the school you wish to attend, and they will inform you from there.

LIHEAP Program

This program helps single mothers, families, and households in North Carolina to keep the lights on. Cash assistance is paid to qualifying low-income applicants, which they can then use to pay electric and other utility bills. This is one of the more popular programs available in North Carolina, and helps many many people each year. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Previously know as the Food Stamp program, the SNAP program allows single mothers, low income families, and households to put food on the table. Qualifying applicants are provided with an EBT card, which will have funds added to it each month with which to buy food at participating retailers.

Medicaid

The North Carolina Medicaid program provides healthcare services at little to no cost to pregnant women, disabled persons, seniors, and more, who qualify as low-income. Cancer Care’s Financial Assistance Program

This program was created to provide financial assistance to women diagnosed with cancer. All diagnoses are accepted, and benefits range from help paying for medication, treatments, medical equipment, and hormones, to childcare and transportation costs. In some instances, the program is even made available to men and children.

Live Your Dream Grant

The Soroptimist Foundation has created the Live Your Dream grant to help women who are the main source of income for their families, to gain higher levels of education and therefore, better employment.
